VDC Modelling Precast Technologist is a fascinating field where you get to create detailed plans and drawings for precast structures like buildings and bridges. Program Structure & Length

Over a period of 4 terms you will follow a path for success which includes:

BIM Expertise

Learn the ins and outs of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and how the process works in structural, architectural and Mechanical & Electrical Services contexts.

Construction Process

Gain hands-on experience and understanding of the intricacies of construction processes.

Business Communication Skills

Develop essential skills, including personality types and leadership skills, to excel in the professional world.

Building Code Knowledge

Acquire basic code knowledge to navigate the regulatory landscape confidently.

Tekla Mastery

Become proficient in Tekla, a powerful tool in the construction industry.

Pre-requisites

  • OSSD or equivalent
  • Grade 12 English (College or University)

I am now a VDC Modeller. They have provided all the training in Tekla and Autocad needed daily within my position. Coming into this position with no experience was a little daunting at first, but the amazing team here taught me the necessary skills to excel in my role.

Course Curriculum

The courses are offered based on seasonal availability and in an order suited to each student’s personal needs. Students will work with their program coordinator to come up with an individual plan and structure.

Course Description:

Our AutoCAD User 1 course provides you with the knowledge and skills you need to use AutoCAD software for architectural design and drafting effectively. This AutoCAD for beginners course introduces you to the AutoCAD interface, drawing tools, object selection, layers, blocks, and basic commands. Get practical experience in creating, editing, and manipulating drawings through a combination of self-learning modules and exercises.

Our AutoCAD User 2 course teaches you about object snaps and coordinates, trimming and extending objects, arrays and offsetting, and filleting and chamfering as well as creating and modifying text. Course Description:

Our Building Code Regulation course recognizes that the Ontario Building Code is a complex and ever-evolving piece of legislation and that you must understand how the regulation developed before you can properly administer the code. Study the fundamentals of this legislation as well as some of the other legislation that a building official is required to consider during the enforcement process. This building code course also helps you develop the skills you need to deal with people who fail to comply with the law during construction.

Course Description:

Our Building Information Modelling Fundamentals course is a theory-based course that teaches a variety of concepts key to the implementation and management of building information modelling (BIM). BIM involves creating and managing files that represent the physical and functional features of locations in order to assist in decision making about those locations. Learn about Canadian and international standards, policies and procedures, organizational commitment, legal implications, interoperability of BIM platforms, methods of delivery and BIM execution.

Our Communication for Building Officials course helps you develop your spoken and written communication skills and explores electronic communication processes you can use to communicate with team members and project stakeholders most effectively. Course Description:

Our Concrete Construction course teaches you about many other components of this major form of construction in addition to the concrete itself. Learn about formwork and its hardware, reinforcing steel and mesh, inspection and testing, the basic composition of the material, procurement, placement, scheduling, quality control and the finished product. Our Construction Materials and Methods course introduces you to commonly used construction materials such as wood, steel, plastics, glass, roofing, doors, windows and cladding systems. DISCovery Workshop Intro: Have you ever wondered why……

This workshop is designed with concepts that are easy to learn and simple to apply. You will DISCover down-to-earth ideas that work every time with your team and help you to better understand your own communication and decision-making style.

All participants will complete an online confidential assessment which will help you maximize your workshop experience. Producing a 3-page report, this self-assessment is packed full of helpful and practical information to help you understand yourself and others better.

This unique program was utilized by the Arizona Diamondbacks who are the only baseball team in history to go from inception to capturing a World Series in just 4 short years! Now we won’t teach you how to throw a baseball but you will hit a home run with reduced stress, better communication skills and more effective team interaction.

Our Steel Construction course helps you develop a basic understanding of the structural steel industry and familiarize yourself with structural steel and framing types. Course Description:

Students learn how to open Tekla and begin the process of modelling as structure. They will learn the importance of following Stubbe's standards and the best practices to create models that will be used to produce drawings for fabrication in our plants. Proper layers, levels, use of standard components, and locations of files that contain job specific and general information to complete their model accurately. The proper methods of setting up drawings to standards, selecting print views and ranges, use of the proper printer or PDF generator to produce drawings for review. Assignment of a practice project which the student will be graded on after completion and review.

Course Description:

Students will be paired with an experienced Detailer in the product they will be focussing on. The student will learn how that detailer approaches a project, how to further streamline setting up their model for best use. The how and why we use standards to create consistent drawings that allow others to check the work being done. The student will learn how to self check their own work before passing along for a review. During this time a second practice project will be assigned and the students completed work will once again be reviewed and graded by a senior Detailer in the product line assigned. After successfully completing the second practice assignment the student will be given a live project to work on.

Course Description:

Students who show potential will be given the chance to attend training sessions as they occur in the more advanced use of Tekla. They will learn how to edit components, make custom components, expand on their modelling skills to allow for more complex designs and products. Each student will be given the chance to try different products as opportunities arise. Stubbe's promotes from within, an excellent student will find themselves challenged in new areas of detailing and the opportunity to expand their skills in project managing with occasional client interaction to assist project managers.
